Quick Baby Update
Nothing new really. We won't really know much until I have an ultrasound in another few weeks and then my doctor can see how big he is and if/when i will be induced. I'm basically starting to feel very tired, unbalanced, and more tired. So sleepy...
Zach
Josh and his parents are donating a park bench to Zach's favorite frisbee disc course in Iowa. They are in the process of getting a plaque engraved that will be on the bench, with a short rememberence passage and Zach's name and birth date and date he passed away. I thought it was a really awesome way to honor Zach since he LOVED disc golf and sadly didn't get to play much the last couple years. Also, it is something his friends will see everytime they go there to play. They are also having a trophy made for the fantasy football group Zach was involved in, which he was also very passionate about. So every year, whoever wins will be able to keep the trophy until the next year. His parents wrote to the Packers telling them the story etc...and asked if they could get an NFL football for the trophy, but the were denied!!! Can you believe it? Although I'm sure they get thousands of these type of requests, it's only a ball, you wouldn't think it would have been hard for them to do! Oh well, either way I think they are both really nice tributes that would have been very meaningful to Zach.
Ethan Vogel...Teacher's Pet
I HAD to put this in here, because aside from the many things Ethan has accomplished and I'm proud of, this was the first from an outside source. He goes to daycare twice a week, and last Thursday his "teacher" gave him a little stuffed animal Eyeore for being such a good helper and good listener! She said he always listens and helps pick up the toys and things and helps the other kids. I thought that was so super cute because it shows we are doing something right, I guess! Yay Ethan!
Josh
Josh has been looking for a job in the graphics field for like 12537567 weeks now, and we still haven't heard anything! Aside from the fact that we have a child arriving in less than 2 months, he's starting to feel really bad about this! His resume looks awesome and stuff, so we just don't know what's up. But he is meeting Mark in Kohler in two weeks where Mark is going to introduce him to some "peeps" that may be able to hook him up with a job! Kohler would be an awesome and perfect place for Josh considering his knowledge and talent in ceramics AND his newfound skills in graphics. Oh wow, can you tell i've written a few cover letters for him?!? Anyways, everyone PLEASE keep your fingers crossed or pray or whatever you have to do, that something pans out. I'm getting really nervouse now!!! If anything I'll just have to take the minimum for my maternity leave (6 weeks) and then go back to work while he watches the baby and Ethan! That means I'll have to buy the $300 breast pump so I can frickin' pump my boobies at work super fast like 10 times a day!

I LOVE that there will be a Zach memorial bench at a frisbee golf course! That is really cool and in the future will be a nice alternative to his grave to visit him. Since cemeteries are SO sad and direct...this bench will be a little more serene than that I think, and will be very beautiful.
My brother, his friends and my dad's golf buddies a few weeks after my dad died went up to Rainbow Springs, my dad's favorite course and spread his remaining ashes (that we didn't put in his urn) on the 9th hole, his favorite spot. I thought that was so cool.
And every year around my dad's death anniversary, my brother coordinates the "Ogre Open" golf tournament with his friends. He's gotten really into it- he makes shirts & hats, and there's a trophy, etc. REally cool! Maybe someday Tim & I will graduate from the driving range and be able to golf and then join the Ogre Open!!!!
Awww! That is so awesome! That is a great idea; maybe Josh and Zach's frisbee golf friends can do something similar as a disc golf tournament. I know Josh has invited them to the one that Bob and them do once a year, but I think creating one in Zach's name is a great idea.
I think his parents were thinking the same thing about the whole rememberence thing; instead of going to a grave yard, they want to do alternative things that remind them of what he loved. That's why Josh also wanted to have a party for Zach...because it's definitly what he would want us to do! I think that could become an annual thing also, maybe on his bday or something.
Hey, we should go golfing this summer! I suck (Josh is good) but we'll go to a par 3 course once in awhile for fun. But you three are pretty competetive, there could be a fight!!! Maybe mini-golf instead!
DUDE I wanna get up on this convo!!
A. all of these are FABULOUS ideas...I LOVE the concept of Ogre Open Monica!! That's the best thing ever!! AND the part about how his friends scattered his ashes at the 9th hole! I think SOME kind of annual remembrance of Zach would be a great idea...whether it be a disc golf tourney or a party on his bday...all great ideas!! PS Tina I hope the party was fun this past weekend! :D
B. I wanna get up on golfing with you guys!! John golfed in AZ and I was SO JEALOUS! I don't have a travel bag for my clubs so didn't bother bringing them. I want to play the Missing Links par 3 course up in Mequon again this summer. So much fun!! And totally cheap!
I agree, the "Ogre Open" is such a great idea! I hope we can put something together like that for Zach; Josh thought it sounded really cool. The party was fun; Eric and Lisa brought the baby (Caleb) over for a couple hours and he is SUPER cute and I totally loved holding him and it reminded me of what we have coming! Plus, it's been awhile since i've been around a baby and I was happy to see that it DOES all come back very easily, and I didn't forget how to take care of a baby. Yay! Lots of peeps showed up and we had a good time just chatting it up and watching Superbad! It was a good time.
As for golfing, I totally want to go this summer. It's one of the things on my "list" that I want to spend more time on. There's a really cheap little par 3 called Valley Green towards our neck of the woods as well. We should definitely plan something. I want to get to the driving range when the weather gets nicer to brush up (plus it'll be a nice break from the kiddos!).
